DALTON, N.H. (AP) - The longtime town clerk in the small northern New Hampshire town of Dalton is facing an embezzlement charge.
Sandy York is scheduled to be arranged Oct. 29 following her arrest last week on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking, a Class A misdemeanor that covers theft up to $1,000. The 64-year-old York has been the town clerk for more than 30 years.
The Caledonian-Record cites court records that say security camera footage shows York taking $100 or more from the town's daily cash receipts and putting the money into her pocketbook on Aug. 9.
Bail conditions prohibit her from having contact with town officers or setting foot on town property.
York did not return a phone call to the newspaper seeking comment.
