SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
If you're 50 or older the AARP and Small Business Association want to help you get a business started.
It's a program called the Encore Entrepreneurs aimed at matching baby boomers with assistance programs.
Vermonters met at the Holiday Inn Tuesday to discuss a program that's being launched in all 50 states. The AARP says one in four Americans ages 44-70 has an interest in becoming an entrepreneur.
"Maybe they've been working for 30 years in the same career or 40 years and they've always wanted to do something different or they've wanted to consult or they've wanted to start their own enterprise, this is a great way for them to take that next step," said Dave Reville of the Vermont AARP.
"It's really reaching out to the fastest-growing business group that we have in the country, they're really important to our economy right now. We want to make sure they have the resources they need to be profitable, sustainable and to hire people," said Darcy Carter of the Vermont SBA.
The program doesn't offer any new assistance programs; it's more of a campaign targeting this age group.
