NORTH THETFORD, Vt. -
Power lines fell on a car in North Thetford Tuesday night, trapping a woman inside.
Police say Emmy Kearns of Fairlee was driving on Route 5 in North Thetford shortly before 6 p.m. when her car drifted off the road and she hit a utility pole.
The pole split in half, and her car became entangled in live electrical and telephone wires.
Crews were able to get Kearns out safely. She wasn't injured.
The crash caused power to go out in the area and closed Route 5 for several hours.
