Vt. workers displaced by Irene on the move again

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Employees with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources are on the move.

More than a year ago, Tropical Storm Irene wiped out the ANR headquarters at the Waterbury office complex.

Following the storm, hundreds of employees were sent to temporary work sites.

This week, 150 of roughly 400 workers moved into a new permanent workplace in the National Life Building in Montpelier. The move is allowing the agency to use a new floor plan aimed at improving the work flow.

"We've designed the office to be much more mobile so that people will have laptops and cellphones instead of landlines and computers," Vt. Natural Resources Secretary Deb Markowitz said.

Markowitz says additional workspace for the department is being constructed at the National Life Building. She expects the entire staff to make the move by January.
