MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Amid growing public concerns about
mountaintop wind farms, Gov. Peter Shumlin has appointed a new committee to
review the approval process for power projects.
The panel will look at how much the
public is involved and whether the current methods are adequately protecting
the state's environmental and cultural resources. The committee will also
compare Vermont's methods for approving projects to those of other states.
"I would like to see
it be quicker or quick and have or ensure we have confidence of local
communities that they are being heard," said Gov. Peter Shumlin,
D-Vermont.
The commission is expected to provide a
report to the governor and legislative committees by the end of next April.
