BRADFORD, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a trooper was uninjured when his cruiser caught fire on Interstate 91 in Bradford.
The vehicle was having mechanical problems when the trooper pulled onto the shoulder of the road Thursday morning and the engine caught fire.
The trooper got out of the cruiser and tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but the fire spread quickly and the 2010 Ford Crown Victoria was a total loss.
Firefighters extinguished the fire.
Vermont State Police say the trooper was able to retrieve several expensive items from the trunk before the fire took hold.
The interstate was closed for about 40 minutes. No one was injured.
