Work underway on Adirondack Public Observatory

Posted: Updated:

Work is underway on the Adirondack Public Observatory.

Fundraising for the $165,000  project in Tupper Lake started back in 2004. It features a retractable roof so the telescopes can get a clear shot of the sky. Images will also be viewable for researchers and college universities.

"We'll have four telescopes that will be permanently installed and setup, they will all be compute controlled, some sophisticated cameras installed into them where date can be fed back to them or remotely to computers over the internet," said Marc Staves of the Adirondack Public Observatory.

There is only one other public observatory in the state, which is down near Binghamton. The one in Tupper Lake is scheduled to open next Spring. It will be run by volunteers.
