He died during a 40-minute gun fight
with police-- now investigators say the Middlebury man didn't kill himself.
George Demarais, 57, told police he
wanted to die by suicide by cop. He started a gunfight with police. Officers
eventually found Demarais dead in a heavily-armed bunker in his backyard.
Last week, police could not say if
Demarais killed himself.
Now, investigators say his gunshot
wounds were not self-inflicted. Bullets recovered from his body will be sent
for testing.
Two officers involved in the shooting are on paid
administrative duties while state police investigate.
