Another delay for Rutland opiate treatment center

Posted: Updated:
RUTLAND, Vt. -

The opening of an opiate treatment center in Rutland is facing yet another delay.

The clinic, which will eventually occupy building number 10 at the Howe Center, was supposed to be operating this month, but now it's been delayed to at least the start of the new year.

Organizers say the pilot clinic will offer a new approach to treating opiate addiction, and structuring federal and state funding to meet the needs of the new program has been a challenge.

"A lot of people are working very hard to move it forward and as quickly as we can, but that's what's slowing us up a bit as of this moment," said Dan Quinn of Rutland Mental Health.

This is not the first time the program has been delayed. Funding shortfalls, location issues, and community resistance have been ongoing since the program was proposed last November.
