Bennington food co-op delayed

BENNINGTON, Vt. -

A food co-op in Bennington has been delayed.

Organizers of the Southshire Community Market say they were denied a $350,000 federal grant that would have helped renovate their preferred location on Main Street.

The Bennington Banner reports organizers now may have to look for a new location and revert back to their original funding plan, which would require people to buy shares in the fledgling nonprofit.

They originally hoped to open the co-op around the new year.
