Opponents gearing up to fight the F-35

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Those fighting a plan to land the military's newest fighter jet in South Burlington are preparing for a legal battle.

Wednesday night more than 100 people gathered at the Chamberlin Middle School to discuss how they can keep the Air Force from basing the F-35 at the Burlington Airport.

Opponents say it will be louder than the current crop of F-16s and worry home prices in the area could drop.

They accuse the Air Force and proponents of massaging the data from the government's report.

"Everything you need to know about the impacts of this plane are very clearly explained in that report, the Air Force isn't accepting their own report, the Air Force is arguing with points made in their own report," said opponent Juliet Buck

All three members of Vermont's congressional delegation - as well as Governor Shumlin and Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger - support bringing the new plane to Burlington International Airport.

Congressman Peter Welch has called for more transparency in the process but the Air Force refuses to release its scoring metrics.
