Former prosecutor faces child endangerment charges

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -

A former domestic violence prosecutor is facing child endangerment charges.

Police say Teri Ames, 48, of Middlebury, started driving down Seminary Street in her minivan while her 8-year-old daughter was out of the car holding onto the door.

The Burlington Free Press reports a witness told police the girl was sprinting to keep holding onto the car.

Police say eventually the girl let go and was uninjured, but Ames never stopped to check on her daughter and drove home.

Ames pleaded not guilty. She faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
