Loved ones of a man severely injured during a haunted hayride say his recovery will be a long one.
Forty-seven year old Norman Grenier is recovering from multiple fractures, a punctured lung, and road burn in an Albany hospital.
Once able to talk, he told friends and family he had been walking alongside the wagon during the annual Benson Haunted Hay Ride. He says he slipped, got caught in the front wheel and then the second wheel rolled over his abdomen.
"Considering all that he went though, he's doing very, very well," said his girlfriend, Barb Goodwin. "He's still in a lot of pain, multiple fractures and injuries -- sleeping now more comfortably, but everybody's been really good and really nice."
Goodwin said he'll likely be unable to work for several months.His ex-wife has organized a fundraiser for the couple. It's scheduled for November 10th at the Castleton American Legion, 11 a.m. to midnight. Funds raised will go toward any unpaid medical expenses and general living expenses while Grenier is out of work.
