LAKE CHAMPLAIN -
Scientists say the number of fish-eating birds on Lake Champlain is dropping.
Cormorants have long annoyed anglers and other lake users who say they eat a lot of fish and damage vegetation.
Scientists have been shooting some birds and oiling eggs to prevent them from hatching, and now they say the bird population is getting closer to a manageable level.
About 10,000 birds have been removed from the lake in the past several years.
