A downtown Burlington hostel wants to open it doors to homeless families this winter, but the city is blocking the move.
The Burlington Hostel, located at 53 Main Street, usually closes in October and opens back up in the spring.
But the hostel's owner tells the Burlington Free Press that this winter, he'd like to open the 48 beds to families who need a place to stay.
The city's zoning administrator says the hostel isn't permitted for that. The hostel will appeal that decision at a November 7 hearing.
