BURLINGTON, Vt. -
A young Vermonter received top honors Monday for his courage and bravery.
"You have demonstrated that wars are not only waged by those in uniform, but during this difficult period you have demonstrated strength, courage and a love for life in heroic portions," said Vermont Air National Guard Col. T.J. Jackman, at the ceremony.
Nine year-old Noah Crogan of Newport was awarded the Vermont Air National Guard's Young Hero award in a ceremony at Fletcher Allen. He is missing part of his immune system and has endured nearly two dozen surgical procedures and monthly infusions of immunoglobulin. That requires a three to four hour hospital visit every month.
Noah was saluted Monday for his positive attitude in the face of adversity. He said the award felt good. "Cause all the people came and I got all these medals and all those other stuff that they gave us," Crogan said.
The awards are presented each year to about 10 children at Fletcher Allen Health Care. There is no known cure for Noah's medical disorder.
