AUSABLE, N.Y. -
A fast moving kitchen fire destroyed a home Monday afternoon in Clinton County, New York.
The home on Route 9N in Ausable was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived around 12:30 p.m. Investigators say a man who lived at the home left the stove unattended. By the time he noticed the fire, it was too late. The home was destroyed. A grandmother and her two grandchildren lived at the home.
"With a grease fire... I think what they tried to do was put it out by putting it into the kitchen sink. I can't tell you definitely what happened from that pont. Once you try to put it into the kitchen sink, I can only assume it splattered the grease over the area, so that impacted the area even more, so it spread even further. A grease fire will spread very fast," said Kelly Donoghue with Clinton County Emergency Services.
