A new report from New Hampshire's Heath Department says traumatic brain injuries have nearly doubled in the state over the past decade.
The report says that from 2001 to 2009, the number of people take to emergency rooms for brain trauma went from about 6,500 cases to more than 12,000.
Half of those patients were younger than 24, reflecting damage from car and sports accidents, but the biggest increase in brain injuries was actually from baby boomers and seniors, mostly from falls.
The report says while the number of brain injuries are up significantly, the number of deaths only rose slightly -- mainly due to advances in treatment.
