MONTPELIER, Vt. -
The Safe Schools Coordinator for the Vermont Department of Education says there are some bullies in Vermont schools, but he says he thinks they're getting too much attention.
Doctor Charles Johnson talked with us on the Channel 3 morning news, saying the conversation surrounding bullying is being approached from the complete wrong way and needs to be changed.
"You don't just go to a school and ask 'are there bullies here?' You ask 'what are you doing here?' -- there's so much in schools that's going on that's positive and uplifting -- and the bullies are sort of more highlighted than currently exists throughout Vermont," Dr. Johnson says.
Doctor Johnson is a member of the newly-formed Harassment, Hazing and Bullying Prevention Advisory Council -- and says he plans to talk about this at the next meeting -- which is from one to four on October 24th at the Howard Dean Center in Springfield.
