The Red Sox managerial search continues Wednesday, when the team plans to interview Dartmouth grad Brad Ausmus. Ausmus played 18 seasons as a catcher in the majors. After retiring a couple of years ago, Ausmus now works in the Padres front office. He has no managerial experience.
Ausmus attended Dartmouth in the late 1980's and early 1990's. While in Hanover, Ausmus was already a prospect in the Yankees organization, so NCAA rules would not allow him to play baseball at Dartmouth. However, Ausmus was no stranger to the Big Green baseball staff. His last 2 years in Hanover were Bob Whalen's first two as Dartmouth's head coach. Whalen told us that he wanted to help the Connecticut native anyway he could on the field and would like to see Ausmus get the Red Sox job.
