BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The push is on to bring a new multi-million dollar athletic facility to the University of Vermont.
UVM would like to build a roughly 65-hundred seat arena on campus. The project has an estimated price tag topping 60-million dollars. The space would provide a new home for men's and women's sports and would also double as a venue for community and campus activities. Right now the challenge is to find the private dollars to bring the project to life.
"I think a project of this size, certainly in this particular instance, private philanthropy really is going to be the driver for this project," said UVM Athletics Director Bob Corran.
UVM President Thomas Sullivan is echoing the need to raise large amounts of money to support the project. If and when that happens, it could take 18 to 22 months to build the new facility.
