Bulletproof vest funding awarded

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermont law enforcement officers are getting a bit more protection thanks to some federal funding.

Twenty-five departments will share a 71-thousand dollar grant to help purchase 310 bulletproof vests for state and local officers. The funds are part of the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Program authored by Senator Patrick Leahy.
     
The program expires at the end of the year, but legislation is in the works to renew it.
