Burlington burglar at large

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Police say a Burlington woman caught a burglar in the act.

The alleged break-in happened at a home on South Union Street in Burlington just before noon Wednesday. Police say the 19-year-old was home when the suspect came in. She told police he was a husky, white man about six-feet tall. The suspect was dressed in all black and had rotten, crooked teeth. The woman told police she wasn't sure if she locked her door.

Police say often times these property crimes are fueled by drugs. Some neighbors, like Tom NcNitt, say they aren't surprised.
"It doesn't matter how you get what you want. It only matters that you get it. So if you can't get it because you don't have a paycheck, you get it some other way," he said.

The suspect fled on foot. A canine team was called in but police were unable to find him. They're offering a cash reward for information leading to the man's arrest.
