Barton transformer taken out by gunman

BARTON, Vt. -

A shooting in the Northeast Kingdom not only knocked out power to thousands, but will cost more than half-a-million dollars to fix.

Wednesday afternoon Barton Village Electric discovered someone had shot a transformer at the Baird Road substation. The damage allowed oil to leak from the transformer and it overheated.  

Police have no suspects and say it's unclear if the shooting was intentional.  If anyone has any information about the incident they're asked to call the Orleans County Sheriff's Department.
