BERLIN, N.H. -
Officials in Berlin, New Hampshire are holding a ceremony this morning to officially open the new federal prison in the city.
The prison is expected to create about 340 jobs and provide a $40-million boost to the local economy.
The facility is for minimum and medium security inmates. It can hold up to 1,700 prisoners.
Federal officials say most of the inmates housed at the new prison will be serving sentences for drug and gun-related crimes.
