Bennington votes to close, re-open elementary school

NORTH BENNINGTON, Vt. -

Voters in Bennington have decided to close down an elementary school.

The Rutland Herald reports the decision passed by 26 votes. Now the North Bennington Graded School will close, only to re-open as an independent school.

School officials say declining numbers were making it difficult to avoid state penalties for higher-than-average pupil spending.
