Lou (left) and Bill (right)
POULTNEY, Vt. -
Despite increasing pressure from animal lovers, Green Mountain College in Poultney says it will slaughter two oxen.
Bill and Lou worked on campus for a decade, but the team is now injured and old. So the student body decided earlier this semester to process the pair for meat, saving the school from buying meat for an entire month. But that plan is fueling a save the Bill and Lou campaign. 95-hundred people from all over the world have signed an online petition to keep the animals alive. The school said it won't be swayed. College officials refused to say when they plan to take Bill and Lou to the slaughterhouse.
