DERBY, Vt -
A Derby man is accused of ramming a car containing a police officer and then leading authorities on a high speed chase.
Police say about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, 23-year old Brent McClure sped up and smashed into the personal vehicle of Newport City officer Richard Wells -- who was off duty. It's not clear if McClure knew that Wells was a cop.
Police say McClure then took off leading officers on a chase to Derby, where he ditched his car and fled on foot. McClure was caught and now faces several charges including drunk driving and aggravated assault.
