SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The Debate over bringing F-35s to South Burlington continues Thursday night.
Supporters of the proposal to base the planes at the Burlington International Airport released a new petition. It contains close to 11,000 signatures of folks rallying behind the effort.
The petition asks the South Burlington City Council to reverse its opposition to the F-35s.
"We think it is just a small example of the huge grassroots support that Vermonters have for the men and women of the Vermont Air Guard and also for the basing of the F-35," said Frank Cioffi President of the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation.
Opponents of the new planes have centered their arguments largely around noise. They say the F-35 will be louder than the F-16, expanding the halo of dangerous noise levels to thousands of homes surrounding the airport.
