Essex County Sheriff proposes ATV rules

GUILDHALL, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont sheriff is pushing for tougher all-terrain vehicle ordinances in two towns.

Essex County Sheriff Trevor Colby has pitched the idea of speed regulations, prohibiting intentional tire-spinning and requiring ATVs to be registered for road use to selectmen in Concord and Lunenburg.

Neither town has an ATV ordinance, but they allow ATVs on public highways.

Colby says his office has been getting a lot of complaints about unregistered ATVs speeding and cutting doughnuts.

Colby tells the Caledonian Record he's planning to draft proposed ATV ordinances for review by both towns.
