BURLINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -
It's an eerie feeling walking through the normally busy Burlington International Airport. The board is filled with flight cancellations, the restaurant -- almost empty and the ticket lines have no wait.
"It's very quiet today. We've had all flights canceled except those going to Chicago and Detroit," said the airport's Kelly Conning.
That's a total of 59 flight cancellations Monday. More than 1,500 people were expected to fly out of the Burlington International Airport but only a little more than 500 people were able to fly out. Tuesday it will be even fewer. More than 1,100 people are supposed to fly out of the airport, but only a little less than 300 are on flights that have yet to be canceled.
"All of those big hubs on the East Coast have actually closed or flights have been canceled because they're being impacted right, now that's why flights from here are canceled," Conning said.
Passengers all up and down the East Coast are stranded as major airport hubs are closed and all flights to and from canceled.
"Tuesday is what the lady told me is gonna be the earliest. So, hopefully she is wrong. But as of now that's what it is," said Clinton Walker, a stranded passenger.
Two passengers from Montreal were stranded in the Burlington airport Monday afternoon, but as Burlington is generally an origin and destination airport there are few people waiting, which hurts the restaurant and shops who rely on passenger traffic.
"Losing those connections, not having people pass through the restaurant, not using the parking garage -- that's an impact to us," Conning said.
