Accused party shooter claims self-defense

CHARLESTON, Vt. -

A Vermont man accused of shooting another man at a party says he did it in self-defense.

24-year-old Lee Sykes of North Troy said he believed his life was in danger this weekend after he threw a bottle cap at Eric Baker's pickup during a party in Charleston -- and the argument turned physical.

Police say Sykes fired at Baker, who was hit in the hip.

Sykes was treated for face and hand injuries. He pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault charges.
