Police look for phony DCF investigator

Vermont State police are investigating a suspicious incident in which a woman posed as a state child abuse investigator.

On Sunday a St. Johnsbury man says a woman claiming to work for the Department of Children and Families came to his apartment and interviewed him and examined his child. She said she was investigating a allegation of child abuse. But state officials later told the man the woman doesn't work for DCF and he is not the subject of an active investigation. Officials say you should always ask to see an ID badge to verify an investigator's authenticity.
