The search for the new Vermont education secretary has been narrowed down to four finalists.
About 30 candidates applied for the position, including current Education Commissioner Armando Vilaseca.
The head of the search committee says they're about a month ahead of schedule, and the four finalists have already been picked and interviewed. There's no word yet if Vilaseca is one of those four finalists.
The committee will recommend three names to Governor Shumlin and hopes to make that proposal to the full school board on November 13.
The search for the state's new education leader comes after a law elevated the position to a Cabinet-level secretary.
