A plea deal for a contractor following a pricey mix up in Montpelier.
64 year old Daniel Scott accepted a $548,000 payment from the city for a water line project that cost less than $100,000. The overpayment was the result of a clerical error. And Scott kept the money.
Friday he plead no contest to false pretenses, and prosecutors dropped grand larceny charges. The plea deal keeps him out of jail and off probation.
It does not include restitution because the city of Montpelier is suing him for the cash.
