Port Henry soldier killed in Afghanistan

PORT HENRY, N.Y. -

A soldier from Essex County, New York has died in Afghanistan.

Port Henry resident Dain Venne was killed in Afghanistan Saturday.

The 29-year-old National Guard member was reportedly on patrol when a roadside bomb exploded. Dain was with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division at Form Drum and had served several tours in Afghanistan.

Venne was a firefighter in Port Henry.  He attended Moriah Central School, where his mom is a teacher.  Flags at the school were at half staff Monday morning.
