No fuel shortage in Vt.

Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Power outages in New York and New Jersey are making it impossible to pump fuel in many areas, but problems there won't affect our fuel supply in Vermont.

Vermont usually imports its fuel from those two states, but the federal government has re-routed the fuel supply system to bypass areas recovering from Superstorm Sandy.  The main terminals in our area, Albany and Burlington, are now receiving fuel directly from the Gulf Coast instead of from New York.

"The federal government has really taken the bull by the horns, if you will, and made sure supplies will bypass that region as they continue to solve their own problems," said  Joe Choquette with the Vermont Petroleum Association.

Choquette says when the supplies in Albany and Boston get low, Montreal is also able to supply our region.
