BURLINGTON, Vt. -
In the race for Vermont treasurer the numbers were on Beth Pearce's side. She beat her Republican challenger Wendy Wilton Tuesday night.
"I'm excited, I've got a lot of work to do in the Treasurer's office, this is what I do for a living, I'm glad the voters gave me the opportunity to continue to serve Vermont," said Pearce, D-Vt. Treasurer.
Pearce's victory comes after a hard fought campaign against the Rutland City Treasurer, where super PACs and debates over home ownership and transparency in the treasurer's office often drove the campaign.
"I'm glad that I challenged the race, because I think there are a lot of good issues we discussed. I said particularly to her that I was interested in the transparency issue which you know I talked about," Wilton said.
For Pearce the election meant she was able to win the post on her own after being appointed to the office by Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, two years ago.
Pearce says she plans to sleep in Wednesday morning, but expects to be back in the office by the afternoon.
