It was a race Republicans felt confident they were going to win-- Republican incumbent Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott running against Progressive and Democratic candidate Cassandra Gekas.
"It doesn't matter who's in charge, we all have a responsibility to do what's best for Vermonters. After the campaign is over you put your partisan stripes aside and you do what's best for Vermont and Vermonters," Scott said.
Political newcomer Cassandra Gekas was happy with her run.
"Sometimes doors open and you have to walk through them. I felt like I ran a race focused on the issues," Gekas said.
Gekas left a message for Phil Scott a little after 11 p.m. election night conceding and wishing him the best of luck.
