RUTLAND, Vt. -
Residents in Rutland were asked to approve a $5.5 million bond to overhaul the water treatment facility by adding a carbon filtration system. That vote failed by a close margin: 3,402-3,178.
That meant officials would have to treat the water with the chemical monochloramine to bring it into compliance with EPA standards. But now the public works commissioner says water levels recently reached compliance on their own. Now any plans to treat the water have been put on hold.
