Dain Venne
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
The ROTC program at Plattsburgh State honored a fallen solider Wednesday.
Flags were lowered to half-staff to honor three U.S. Army soldiers who were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan last weekend. One of them was 29-year-old Staff Sgt. Dain Venne of Port Henry. He attended Plattsburgh State and was studying to become a history teacher. But Venne was called up to active duty on the anniversary of 9/11 in 2009. He was set to graduate that semester.
"It's a real sobering experience," said Tyler Parker of the ROTC. "You are always thinking, I have friends over there, I have friends who have been killed, I always think about them, why I want to be in the military and the sacrifice people make for our country and the sacrifice we are willing to make when we sign up."
Funeral arrangements for Dain Venne are still being finalized.
