Berlin residents vote for public access to pond

Posted: Updated:
BERLIN, Vt. -

Residents in Berlin voted overwhelmingly to allow public access to the Berlin Pond.

The vote in the non-binding referendum was 790-440.

The town owns just 85 feet of the land surrounding the pond. The rest is owned by Montpelier, which does not allow public access and has asked Berlin to ban recreational use of the pond.

It's now up to the town select board to decide.
