WATERBURY, Vt. -
Waterbury residents have voted to save the village police department.
254 people voted yes to abolish the force while 536 voted no to keep it.
The force of seven is funded entirely by village residents who account for just 2 square miles of the town of Waterbury. The rest of the town is policed by the state.
Village trustees asked for the vote to gauge public support for the force and turns out it is still strong.
