Essex police station plans move forward

Posted: Updated:
ESSEX, Vt. -

Plans for a new police station are in full swing in Essex.

This Election Day voters approved plans for a nearly $7 million bond to buy land and build a new police station.

Right now the expected location on Maple Street is currently owned by IBM. IBM plans to sell it to the town for $600,000.

The Burlington Free Press reports the select board now needs to submit a formal request and bid on the project.

Town officials say they hope to see the new building complete by summer of 2014.
