WATERBURY, Vt. -
Local radio stations held the last Stuff-a-Truck Food and Funds Drive drop-off in Waterbury today. The drive is in its 11th year and benefits the Central Vermont Salvation Army Emergency Food Shelf. Organizers say the benefit has contributed more than 134-thousand tons of food over the years.
Spokespeople say the event usually stocks the food shelf for an entire year. However, the Salvations Army has seen a one-hundred 15 percent increase in the number of families requesting help this year. The Stuff-a-Truck drive broke fundraising records last year, but resources at the food shelf began running dry by July. The 18-wheeler full of supplies will be shipped Thursday.
