BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -
Twenty-seven employees at
Brattleboro Retreat will soon be out of a job.
Retreat officials say
though admissions and revenue are at their highest in recent years, so, too, is
the number of acute psychiatric patients. They hired staff to meet the need,
but now revenues have fallen flat. The Retreat says to stay financially stable
they have to cut their administrative staff.
"Our task is to
provide emergency admissions quick access to care, excellent psychiatric care,
and to communicate strong coordination of aftercare plans and that's what our
dogs needs to move more toward," said Peter Albert of the Brattleboro
Retreat.
In all, 31 positions are
being cut, four of which are currently vacant. Albert says the area most
impacted by the cuts will be educational therapy classes for young patients.
