Layoffs at UTC Aerospace

VERGENNES, Vt. -

Layoffs in Vergennes at UTC Aerospace. UTC bought Goodrich Aerospace this summer.

Friday, 24 jobs were eliminated at the Vergennes plant. Those employees worked mainly in sales and administration. They will get severance packages.

A company spokesman says the layoffs were necessary for UTC to remain competitive.

About 850 people still work at the Vergennes plant.

UTC Aerospace employs 40,000 people worldwide.
