BELVIDERE, Vt. -
One man is in police custody and another remains at large, after an early morning, high-speed chase through Franklin and Lamoille Counties.
Police say they tried to stop a car in Berkshire, but the driver, 32 year Shane Phillips of Johnson, sped off, nearly ramming a trooper's cruiser. Phillips and his passenger, 37-year-old Raymond Earle of Wolcott, reportedly led Police on a 15 mile chase that ended when they ditched their car in Belvidere.
Both men were wanted on active warrants and now face multiple felony charges from the chase. Police say Phillips has been wanted for 10 years on multiple charges of aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon.
"When we have pursuits and people doing things to escape from police custody, most time it resolves without injury but sometimes it results in tragedy, so they sooner we can get him to where he needs to be the safer we'll all be," said Vt. State Police Lt. Thomas Hango.
Police want your help in finding Phillips, but don't have any photos of what he looks like and he does not have a DMV photo on file with the state. Police say they're relying on fingerprints from past arrests to identify him. If you have any information on his whereabouts, call state police.
