BURLINGTON, Vt. -
A number of Vermont's small businesses are hoping to keep the shopping spirit going next weekend with what they are calling 'Small Business Saturday.'
Everyone knows about Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving shopping bonanza. It has become the traditional start to holiday shopping with big sales offered at the large retail outlets.
But, the National Federation of Independent Business is hoping that after mobbing the malls on Friday, it can get shoppers to turn their attention to Main Streets on Saturday. The group says it's the smaller merchants in downtowns who often take a big role in supporting school and civic events.
