BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger announced Monday the city will start spending all the spare change in the city's Penny for Parks program.
The mayor cut the ribbon on a new jungle gym at Appletree Park in Burlington's New North End.
In 2008 voters approved a new tax to help pay for repairs to the city's public spaces. However, Weinberger says of the $350,000 in the budget every year, only about $100,000 has been spent annually.
The project is the seventh of 30 planned under the Penny for Parks programs.
Weinberger promised that the rest of the backlogged efforts will be completed by the end of 2013.
